Q: Who can enter the Elite Meet? A: All high school track athletes in Minnesota are eligible to enter the meet (although the unique meet format does limit participation based on performance). Any school that has a relay team in Friday’s competition will not be allowed to compete in that same event on Saturday. Individuals who compete in Friday’s open events are eligible to compete on their team’s relays on Saturday.
Q: Who is selected to compete in the Elite-Meet? A: For Saturday's competition, we limit the field size and the top relays from the entries submitted will be selected to compete.
Q: How will field events be contested in Saturday's relay carnival portion of the Elite-Meet? A: Field events will be contested in two person teams with their best marks added together to determine the team place. LJ, TJ, Shot and Discus fields will consist of 16 teams divided into 4 flights of 8 with each athlete receiving 4 attempts. Pole vault and high jump fields will consist of 10 teams of 2 for 20 total athletes.
Q: Some of the running relays are not traditionally contested in high school competition. Could you explain how these relays will be run? A: Below are descriptions of some of the nontraditional relays in the relay carnival competition: * 4X1600 (baton TBD): The use of the baton in this relay will be determined based on field size. If field sizes are smaller, all athletes will run in this event at the same time and no batons will be used. The athletes' finish times will be combined to yield the team total. If field sizes are larger, this relay will be run in four separate legs of 1600m with a baton handoff between each leg of the relay. *4X3200 (w/out baton): All athletes will run in this event at the same time. No batons will be used. The athletes' finish times will be combined to yield the team total. *Shuttle Hurdle: This relay will be run in four separate legs of 110m(B) and 100m(G). *DMR: The distance medley relay will be 1200,400,800,1600 for both. * SMR: The sprint medley relay will be a 200,200,400,800 for boys and a 100,100,200,400 for girls.
Q: How do I enter times for non-traditional relays in which we have not previously competed? A: * For the 4X1600 and 4X3200: Coaches will need to submit the individual performance of each athletes running in the relay. Hamline will then sum the 4 times to determine the total relay seed time. * For the DMR, SMR, and Shuttle Hurdle relays: Coaches will need to use their most accurate prediction of what their relay is capable of performing on April 24. We would recommend looking at each athlete in the relay and summing each time for the total time for the team. * For traditional state meet relays: Submit best team time performed to date in 2009. * For field events: Submit each member of two person team individually. Hamline will sum the two marks together to for the total team mark. If more than one two-person team is submitted per school, Hamline will automatically pair the first two highest entries together, then the next two and so on.
Q: Do indoor times count towards entry? A: YES
Q: What are the standards in each event to get into the meet? A: There are no set standards, we simply take a limited field size listed and the top marks compete!
Q: Can I enter a mark from last year/season? A: No. All marks have to be from the 2010 season
Q: Does the meet count against the meet total for my team? A: The MSHSL says yes. The two-day Elite Meet counts as one meet. Athletes are limited to competing in a max of 4 events over the two days.
Q: Do I enter in hand-held or FAT or convert it myself? A: If your time is in HH, please enter it to the tenth only. If it is FAT, then enter to the hundreth. We'll convert the HH up .24. Do NOT do this yourself.
Q: Do I need two times from two different meets to be considered? A: NO. A second meet/second performance is only needed upon request for tie-breakers.
Q: Can an athlete do more than one event? A: YES. Keep in mind though, that we will stick to the MEET SCHEDULE as written. The meet WILL run on time. This includes field events. Athletes will jump/throw in order and will have 1-minute to make their attempt. If they are not present, they will scratch that attempt. All athletes in the jumps and throws will attempts on Saturday.
Athletes are limited to competing in a max of 4 events over the two days (3 field & 1 running; 2 field & 2 running; 1 field and 3 running). An athlete may do no more than 2 running events of 800 meters or longer. Any school that has a relay team in Friday’s competition will not be allowed to compete in that event on Saturday. Individuals who compete in Friday’s open running events are eligible to compete on their team’s relay(s) on Saturday. Individuals who compete in Friday's field events cannot compete on the two-person relay team in that same field event on Saturday.
